Our theme-based curriculum provides a wide range of learning opportunities including lots of play and elements from the Creative Curriculum, Reggio Emilio, and Emergent pedagogies. Because each child has a unique approach to learning, our comprehensive curriculum provides the right mix of challenge, support, sensitivity and stimulation to promote and enhance their learning. It also allows children to grow and learn at their own pace.
Our day is balanced with play and hands-on learning experiences planned around themes that are introduced each week which allows children to pursue their interests and invite children to explore new ideas across curriculum areas- music, art, dramatic play, storytelling, sensory, games, books, science, dance/movement- which brings learning to life. By engaging in all sorts of experiences that allow for exploring, discovering, and practicing skills in a safe and supportive space, children develop competence in the following areas:
- social: play, collaborate, share, take turns
- emotional: manage feelings and behaviors, recognize and talk about emotions in self and others
- cognitive: solve problems, recall, make connections, make decisions
- language: comprehension, expand expressive vocabulary, conversational and communication skills
- literacy: comprehension, vocabulary, phonological awareness, letter/word recognition, emergent writing
- math: number concepts, shapes, measurement, patterns, classification
- physical: small and large motor strength and coordination
- the arts: music, dance & movement, visual arts, drama
- science: scientific inquiry, predictions, knowledge of living things, objects and materials
- social studies: learn about self, how people live, geography.
